One late night as I sat in my dimly lit music studio working on ideas for new songs, the small red and yellow leds blinking on my various analog synthesizers, the warm, orange glow of the vacuum tubes in my Fender '65 Princeton Reverb guitar amplifier softly humming and lighting the wall behind it, I thought how sitting in the cockpit of a spaceship in the darkness of outer space might feel similar. Instead of knobs, faders, instruments and cables, I’d be surrounded by control panels, various gauges, switches, buttons and screens.

I’ve always been fascinated with ideas of traveling to different planets and discovering other lifeforms in the far corners of the universe, and though I hope humans manage to keep the earth healthy for all life on the planet, what if, through some sudden and unforeseen disaster, life on earth were no longer possible? What if mankinds’ only hope for survival rested on the shoulders of the last human alive? With these thoughts came the idea for Pilot Zero.

Pilot Zero is earth’s sole remaining human survivor after an asteroid causes a mass extinction event. Pilot Zero is faced with two options: stay on earth and perish alone, or travel by spaceship through the universe in search of a new home. With this story in mind I began to write music for Pilot Zero’s journey through the cosmos. Each song on Multipass was written, produced and recorded to tell a different tale on this journey and I hope you enjoy the ride!
